Standard types of dust collection
The following dust collection methods are very commonly used. Because they are well-developed and included in our modular filter construction system, these collection methods are a good choice, the high production numbers make them economically favourable and also do not involve any engineering.
Typically, the choice of dust collection is determined by answering the following questions:
- How much dust production is expected?
- How is the collected dust processed further?
- What is the available height for the filter?
We will of course be happy to advise you on what is the right choice in your situation!
Comparison matrix for dust collection
| Type | Price | ATEX | More height needed? | Perceptible if full? |
| Plastic bag | ++ | No | No | Yes |
| Big Bag | ++ | Option | Yes | Yes |
| 50L drum | +/- | No | Nee | No |
| 200L drum | + | Option | Yes | No |
| Locking frame + 50L drum | – | Yes | No | No |
50L drum with locking frame
ATEX/Explosion-proof in combination with ATEX clogging indicator in hopper. Frame pushes waste drum up against filter.
Big Bag
For collecting large volume of dust and can be placed on a pallet for easy disposal. (Possibility of ATEX including earthing)
Plastic bag
Mounted directly under conical valve and simple and quick to fix with clamping ring.
200L drum
Attached with flexible hose to butterfly valve. Industry-wide standardised 200L drums make replacement and storage of dust very easy.
Standard valve types
The following types to seal fabric are also very commonly used. Again, these designs are included in our modular design system and are therefore safe and economical choices.
Comparison matrix for reception methods
| Type | Price | ATEX | More height needed? | Operation |
| Conical valve | ++ | No | No | Gravity |
| Rotary valve | – | Option | Yes | Electric |
| Butterfly valve | ++ | Yes | No | Manual |
Conical gate valve
The weight of the collected dust causes the valve to open to discharge the dust.
Rotary lock
A valve with rotating vanes driven by an electric motor. Also available in ATEX.
Butterfly valve
A manually controlled butterfly valve that allows the filter to be closed during dust collection changes
Custom dust collection and sealing
In addition to the above standard options, Naaykens also provides solutions that seamlessly match specific requirements. With our experienced engineers and modularly designed funnel systems, such designs are also delivered quickly.
A selection of such custom designs can be seen in the pictures below:
Here, the valves are individually switched rotary sluices to pause dust discharge during the changeover.
Here, dust disposal is integrated into an existing logistics system of containers.
Combined dust discharge via conveyor screw
The discharge from the various hoppers here is taken to a combined location via a conveyor screw.
Silencers
Silencers are very frequently used to reduce fan noise levels. A quiet filter not only ensures a nice working environment, but depending on the location of the filter, it may also be required by law.
Standard round silencers
For a Pat-Jet filter with the fan on the roof, it is very easy to add a standard circular silencer. The noise reduction depends on the type of fan and the length of the silencer – but typically a reduction of 7-13 dB(A) of noise can be achieved with a standard silencer.
If the filter blows directly into a room where people are regularly present, we strongly recommend applying a damper, a small investment results in a lot of comfort and working pleasure.
Square coulisse attenuators
For additional noise reduction, coulisse silencers are sometimes applied. These silencers are an upgrade compared to round silencers and attenuate around 6 dB(A) extra noise.
The images below show different types of filters with round and square coulisse silencers
Economizers - pressure-controlled pulse cleaning
A time-controlled controller for cleaning is used as standard with a filter. This control box periodically activates cleaning of the filter cartridges, ensuring continuous cleaning. An alternative is a pressure-controlled pulse cleaning, called an economiser. Based on the measured differential pressure across the filter cartridges, the contamination of the filter cartridges is determined; once the filter cartridges have reached a certain level of clogging, the cleaning cycle is activated.
This regulator has several major advantages over standard timers. By using an economiser, cleaning is done less often when the filter cartridges are clean, and more often when they become dirty. On average, this means less frequent cleaning, which saves a lot in compressed air use and wear and tear on the cartridges due to cleaning.
In applications where the dust load is very low or highly variable, we recommend an economiser: by not cleaning when not necessary, an economiser pays for itself quickly!
Other possible options
Besides the commonly used options above, many different specific solutions have been delivered over the years, almost too many to mention. For example:
- Special angled funnels for trapped dust;
- Vibrating mechanisms or aerators to prevent dust accumulation;
- Custom connections for central control aeration;
- Platforms for easy access and exchange of filter cartridges;
- Cable ducting to specific points for a neat finish;
- Suction sleeves for connections through existing walls, often used in blast rooms;
- Safe-change change systems for safely changing filter cartridges without coming into contact with the dust;
- ….
